Fable 4: Everything We Know A new game in the long-dormant, irreverent RPG franchise is on the way from Forza Horizon dev Playground Games. It is not unreasonable to think that the studio would abstain from launching two major titles in the same release window or even year, so Fable’s absence does make sense from a logistical perspective. Playground Games did show up for E3 2021 with the reveal of Forza Horizon 5 and it was confirmed that the racing title will see a release in November of this year. The Fable 4 release date is still up in the air, but we do have a teaser trailer plus plenty of speculation about the hotly anticipated RPG's story and setting. There have been rumors within the gaming industry for years that Microsoft had been working on reviving the Fable franchise under developer Playground Games. Many expected to get a closer look at the project during E3 2021, but Fable failed to make an appearance. Microsoft tossed these folks a bone last year when the formally announced development on a franchise revival from developed Playground Games. Despite the lack of a standout title for many years, Fable diehards have been eagerly anticipating a new game in the series. From its beginnings at Lionhead Studios to the canceled Fable Legends in 2016, the series has experienced some of the highest highs and lowest lows. "Every time I see something, I say 'We should show this'… because there's a lot of cool stuff," said Booty. Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, acknowledged the lack of news during an interview at PAX West 2022 (opens in new tab) but explained that the game will only be shown when developer Playground Games is ready to show it. Development is still underway on Fable 4 but after the game didn't make any appearances during the Xbox showcases at both Summer Game Fest and Gamescom 2022 fans have been wondering when they'll hear more.
